Former Police Commissioner, Roy Thompson, died late Saturday (October 2)

The 88-year-old passed away at his home in St Andrew.

Following news of Thompson passing, condolences have been pouring in for the man affectionately referred to as Roy “Mass Roy” Thompson.

Member of Parliament for West Portland, Daryl Vaz, was among those who shared condolences for Thompson.

“Saddened by news of the passing of the Honourable Roy “Mass Roy” Thompson. His passing comes as a surprise as we had conversations few days ago. He devoted thirteen years of committed service to the people of Portland and over fifty-four years of service to the people of Jamaica,” said Vaz on Facebook.

“Mass Roy is one of only 6 persons to ever move from the rank of Constable to that of Commissioner of Police. I am glad he passed peacefully. Myself and Ann-Marie Vaz, both whom he mentored and often offered counsel, sincerely celebrates his life and are grateful for his devoted service,” he added.

Thompson the Jamaica Constabulary Force for four decades.

He served as police commissioner from 1991 to 1993.

Thompson also severed as the Custos of Portland from 2000 to 2013.
