Generation 2000 (G2K) has announced the election of Sashana-Lee Edwards as its new President, marking a defining and historic milestone as she becomes the first woman to lead the organisation since its inception.
The announcement was made at the organisation’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), where Edwards delivered an inspiring and resolute address following her victory over Mr Newton Harris. In a closely watched contest, Edwards secured a decisive win, earning the trust and overwhelming support of the membership.
A former General Secretary of G2K, Edwards enters the presidency with a strong record of service, discipline, and visionary leadership. Her journey to this moment was not without challenge, as she faced significant odds throughout the campaign. However, her resilience, determination, and unwavering belief in the organisation’s mission ultimately propelled her to victory.
Addressing members at the AGM, President Edwards declared, “This election was about service, competence, and the ability to strengthen Generation 2000. It was about putting people first, building our movement, and ensuring that G2K continues to grow from strength to strength.”
She continued, emphasising unity and purpose: “I stand here ready to serve, ready to lead, and ready to work with every single member of this organisation. Together, we will strengthen G2K, expand our impact, and ensure that our voices are heard across this nation.”
Her election represents a transformative moment for G2K, signalling a shift toward more inclusive and forward-thinking leadership. Members and supporters have hailed her victory as a powerful symbol of progress, resilience, and the evolving role of women in leadership.
In reflecting on the journey, Edwards added: “Despite the challenges, despite the doubts, we stayed focused. We stayed committed. And tonight, we proved that with courage and conviction, anything is possible.”
Former President Shayne Kerr also extended congratulations, expressing full confidence in Edwards’ leadership: “I warmly congratulate President Edwards on her historic victory. I have no doubt that she will serve with distinction and continue to advance the mission of Generation 2000. I know she will do exceptionally well as President.”
Generation 2000 extends its congratulations to President Edwards on this groundbreaking achievement and looks forward to a new era under her leadership, one defined by innovation, empowerment, and progress.
