The Small Business Association of Jamaica (SBAJ) successfully hosted its Public Procurement Meeting on Thursday, March 26, 2026, bringing together key stakeholders, entrepreneurs, and representatives from the public and private sectors to discuss opportunities within Jamaica’s procurement framework.
The meeting formed part of SBAJ’s continued efforts to empower small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by increasing awareness, improving access, and strengthening participation in government procurement processes. Attendees engaged in meaningful discussions surrounding the importance of transparency, readiness, and capacity-building for SMEs seeking to do business with the government.
A major outcome of the meeting was the announcement that the SBAJ will establish a Procurement Task Force, to be headed by the Company Secretary Kevin Frith. This Task Force will serve as a critical interface between the Public Procurement Commission (PPC), the Government of Jamaica, and the SBAJ membership.
The Procurement Task Force will:
- Facilitate communication between SMEs and procurement authorities
- Provide guidance and support to SBAJ members navigating procurement processes
- Advocate for increased SME participation in government contracts
- Identify and address challenges faced by small businesses in accessing procurement opportunities
- The President of the SBAJ emphasized that this initiative represents a strategic step toward ensuring that SMEs are better positioned to compete, grow, and contribute meaningfully to national development.
“The formation of this Task Force underscores our commitment to bridging the gap between policy and participation. We want to ensure that our members are not only informed but also equipped and supported to access real opportunities,” the president stated.
SBAJ extends sincere thanks to all government ministers, members of the Public Procurement Commission, the Development Bank of Jamaica, partners, and participants who contributed to the success of the meeting. The Association remains dedicated to fostering an inclusive business environment where SMEs can thrive.
