Members of the Jamaica Fire Brigade were on scene at the Hydel campus after a fire broke out at the main office early Thursday morning (July 22).

Students and staff of the Hydel Group of Schools were this morning (July 22) on high alert after a fire broke out in the vicinity of the campus’ main office.

Reports are that the fire broke out a little after 8 am on Thursday, sending students and staff scampering for cover.

The fire which was restricted to the campus’ administrative block disrupted the slated 9 am Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations, as it was close to the auditorium in which the exams were to take place.

It is understood that the fire was detected by students, who notified the auxiliary staff.

It is not yet clear what started the fire or whether any injuries have been sustained by those who were on-site.

Members of the Jamaica Fire Brigade are currently trying to quell the fire which has already begun to spread.

No official statement from the Ministry of Education or the school administration has yet been made.
