School uniform recycling programme under way for 4th year in a row

Hoping to build on the success of their third UniCycle drive, which again saw more than 300 khaki uniforms, 1,000 masks, sets of data cards and school supplies being donated to several high schools across Jamaica, a group of Campion College students is once again calling on Jamaicans to donate gently worn school khaki uniforms to institutions in need.
UniCycle Jamaica is a school uniform recycling initiative, endorsed by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information, with a mission to collect gently used khaki uniforms and re-distribute them to students in need, free of charge.
“COVID-19 is still with us and so covering the cost of school, when we hopefully start back face-to-face or at least in a staggered format in small groups on and off line in September, we know will be hard for some families again this year,” said Rhys Greenland, co-founder of UniCycle Jamaica.
“That’s why we are happy to launch this drive, partnering with Fontana and Campion College to collect gently used khaki uniforms, white school shirts and any school supplies person may wish to contribute.”
Added Shakeen Brown, Fontana Pharmacy and public relations coordinator: “Fontana is always happy to support interventions that target families and so we are happy to work with the UniCycle team again this year.”
“Families need support more than ever, and by recycling uniforms we are also helping our environment. We are working with our other key partners, LP Azar, to add masks for children of all ages, and Digicel Foundation, to provide data cards too.”

As usual, all contributions will be sorted and crests removed before distribution to other schools.

Persons wishing to support UniCycle may donated gently used khaki uniforms (from any school – with or without crests) to any of the drop off locations.
