Schools with established shift systems have been given an additional two weeks to streamline their operations to facilitate the full resumption of face-to-face classes.
According to Dr Kasan Troupe, acting chief education officer in the Ministry of Education and Youth, the timeline is aimed at enabling the schools to “work through their challenges [and] communicate with [parents], so [they] can know fully, when they will be going back to their normal operations”.
Troupe was addressing virtual town hall meeting hosted by the ministry on Friday (March 4) to discuss the full resumption of face-to-face classes.
During the town hall, she outlined that schools on the shift system will have to facilitate a “number of changes, given their situation” as they were beyond their capacities and there was, among other concerns, a shortage of classrooms.
Troupe stressed that the ministry was pushing to have all students back in a whole-day school environment, particularly considering the learning losses suffered over the past two years as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The full resumption of face-to-face classes is set for tomorrow (March 7).
