Scotiabank has deposited a donation of J$2 million to support the Sunshine Girls senior national squad’s ongoing “Going for Gold” fundraising campaign to support their participation in the upcoming Netball World Cup scheduled from July 28 to August 6 in Cape Town, South Africa.

Commenting on the donation at the send-off event for the team, which was hosted on July 11, Tonya Russell, head of marketing for the Scotia Group said “Scotiabank has been a longstanding supporter of sports in Jamaica, including netball. We are inspired and completely in awe of the outstanding track record that our national netballers continue to blaze for Jamaica and our contribution is in furtherance of their efforts.”

Jamaica Netball Association president Tricia Robinson indicated that “the sponsorship from Scotiabank is timely as the team is working overtime to secure the J$54 million needed to ensure that the Sunshine Girls are comfortable in their quest for gold in Cape Town”.

Scotiabank’s donation follows a win for the Sunshine Girls at the recently concluded CAC Games in San Salvador and for which co-coach Nicole Aiken-Pinnock called a “feather in the cap” for the Netball World Cup hopefuls.

“We have been putting in the work, training hard and delivering despite the odds for Jamaica. We are grateful for the support from Scotiabank – who have supported us many times in the past as we move on to take on the world later this month,” Sunshine Girl Shanice Beckford said.

The Sunshine Girls, who placed fifth in the 2019 Netball World Cup held in Liverpool, will be one of sixteen teams competing for the trophy at the upcoming games
