Jamaican DJ Sean Paul

Sean Paul, Jamaican dancehall recording artiste, singer, songwriter, and producer, sat down with online magazine, Hip Hop DX, to talk about all things music and his wish to make additions to his list of collaborations.

Paul who has been on the scene since 2000, has received international critical acclaim and is regarded as one the genre’s most successful artistes.

Throughout his 21-year career, the artiste has risen to superstardom and is arguably, second to Bob Marley, the most recognised artiste to come from the island.

Sean Paul has amassed an impressive list of collaborations, working with with the likes of Beyoncé, the late DMX, Sia, Kelly Rowland, Rihanna, Keisha Cole and Blu Cantrell. The artiste has become well known for collaborating with notable international artistes. Although he has worked with several others and has quite a long list of successful collaborations, the DJ is still looking to make more additions.

Billie Eilish.

“Well you’ve worked with like everybody in like all genres… is there even anyone that’s still on your list that you’d wanna do a song with?” the interviewer asked. In his response, Sean Paul said he would want to do a song with American singer and songwriter Billie Eilish, especially because he believes it is something the public would not expect from him.

It is not the first time the DJ has mentioned wanting to collaborate with Eilish. In an interview earlier this year with Toronto’s Kiss 92.5, he expressed his wish to work with Eilish.

Continuing in his Hip Hop DX interview, Sean Paul also added that he wanted to work with musical duo Twenty One Pilots.

“Those two are kinda out the box things,” he said.

The DJ included his wish to collaborate with Fallin’ singer Alicia Keys, who he said he has wanted to work with for a long time. He said he has reached to the star over the years.

The Get Busy hitmaker noted that, next time around doing collaborations, he would want to take a different approach.

He explained that, instead of doing his signature dancehall verse, he would want to produce a sound closer to that of the artiste, likening the potential collabs to what he previously did on Blu Cantrell’s Breathe.

“Maybe not even a dancehall flex… maybe like something I did back in the day with Blu Cantrell’s Breathe. It was a hip hop track. Maybe I would look towards something that they are doing and just put my focus on and see how that sounds,” he said.
