The Government Senate caucus is throwing their support behind Prime Minister Andrew Holness following the publication of an Integrity Commission report on its investigation into Holness’s statutory declaration for the years 2019-2022.

“The Senate caucus notes that despite a prolonged investigation, which involved the hiring of an international forensic accountant, the Commission did not conclude the Prime Minister acted unlawfully or unethically. We are fully confident in Prime Minister Holness’ integrity and his continued distinguished stewardship of Jamaica,” Johnson Smith said in a statement on Thursday, September 19.

Additionally, the leader of government business in the Senate said the caucus strongly rejects the dangerous, partisan, misleading and desperate coordinated attacks on the Prime Minister from the Opposition and their surrogates in sections of civil society and on social media.

A long-anticipated report and ruling by the Commission’s director of corruption prosecutions, Keisha Prince Kameka, was tabled in Parliament on Tuesday, September 17.

She ruled against charges against the Prime Minister for allegedly making false statements in his statutory declarations by way of omission.

Despite the ruling, the Integrity Commission has recommended that the Financial Investigation Division (FID) and the Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) examine the financial affairs of the Prime Minister.

This after its report revealed an unexplained growth in Holness net worth and concerns surrounding funding and operations of companies linked to Holness.
