Parliamentary secretary Senator Abka Fitz-Henley has moved to dispel claims that the sitting of the House of Representatives scheduled for Tuesday, September 24 has been cancelled.
“It is a matter of fact that the Honourable Edmund Bartlett, leader of government business in the Lower House, has indicated that Parliament is to convene on Tuesday, September 24, at 2 in the afternoon. Any suggestion to the contrary is yet another indicator of how some individuals are willing to use premature speculation and mislead the people of Jamaica,” Fitz-Henley said.
His comments follow an announcement by the leader of the opposition, Mark Golding, that Tuesday’s sitting of Parliament has been cancelled after its resumption last Tuesday, September 17.
Golding said the opposition will be hosting the ‘People’s Parliament’ where key elements of a recently published Integrity Commission report regarding the prime minister’s statutory declaration will be analyzed.
In an addendum to its weekly schedule of meetings for the period September 23-27, shared with the media on Monday, September 23 by Parliament, the schedule was updated to include:
- The Integrity Commission Oversight Committee on Tuesday at 10:00 am
- The sitting of the House of Representatives at 2:00 pm
- A meeting of the Infrastructure and Physical Development Committee on Wednesday, September 25 at 10:00 am.
