Two people were arrested early on Tuesday during an intelligence-led operation targeting suspected lottery scamming activities in St Catherine.

The two individuals arrested are a 32-year-old male, a Treasury Custodian employed by Beryllium, and his 32-year-old female common-law spouse, a former employee of the same company.

The operation, which took place at a residence in Caribbean Estate, Portmore, was carried out by a team of officers from the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigations Branch (CTOC) and the St Catherine South Division.

During the search of the property, law enforcement officials seized over JMD$64-million, USD$317,000, and other currencies. Two firearms were also recovered; a Beretta BU9 compact 9mm pistol with five rounds of ammunition and a Taurus 9mm pistol with a magazine but no rounds.

The officers also confiscated four motor vehicles valued at approximately J$17 million, as well as six mobile phones.

Investigations are ongoing.
