Seprod Group’s Health and Wellness Services Department, in a strong collaborative effort with the Ministry of Health & Wellness and Jamaica Moves, celebrated Mental Health Awareness Month with a series of impactful activities.

These included a wellness challenge and a walk series themed “Reset My Mental Health: Embracing a Healthy Lifestyle.”

As Jamaica’s leading manufacturing conglomerate with over 3,000 dedicated employees, Seprod remains committed to promoting physical activity and mental well-being, a commitment that is further strengthened through these community partnerships.

One of the key activities was a wellness challenge, a collective effort that symbolises shared commitment to creating and maintaining a mentally healthy workplace culture.

Occupational health nurse Carol Morgan, the programme’s facilitator, shared, “Employees were encouraged to place a hi-five handprint on a designated board, a visual representation of unity in this endeavour. Green water paint was provided, and the assigned nurse at each location supervised the activity. This was not just a challenge, but a testament to our collective strength and dedication. Employees were encouraged to take photos while placing their hi-5 and share them, further fostering a sense of community.”

Additionally, they were motivated to adopt healthier habits such as eating more fruits and vegetables, drinking more water, reducing smoking, cutting out sweet drinks and coffee, and walking 10,000 steps daily.

The initiative also included invigorating walks on May 16 and May 30 along three scenic routes, each leaving a unique impact on the participants.

The first route led employees to the Palisadoes peninsula near Port Royal, offering breathtaking coastline views that not only rejuvenated their spirits but also provided a much-needed break from the daily routine.

The second route, starting from the Tru-Juice factory to Seprod’s Bog Walk factory in St. Catherine, immersed employees in lush surroundings, fostering a strong sense of community and creating lasting memories.

The third route was in the surrounding area of Serge Island Farms Limited (SIFL) to Seaforth Town, St. Thomas. These walks were not just about physical activity, but about mental rejuvenation, promoting a culture of well-being within the organisation.

Morgan also highlighted the benefits of the walks.

“Employees can step away from their desks to connect with nature and physically exercise during the walks. This improved physical health and provided a valuable outlet for stress relief and mental rejuvenation.” She commended MOH&W and Jamaica Moves for their commitment to supporting and participating in future health-related workplace wellness programs.

Seprod’s participation in Mental Health Awareness Month activities is a testament to its unwavering commitment to employee well-being. By promoting regular physical activity and fostering a culture of well-being, Seprod empowers its workforce through its Employee Support and Development Programme to thrive personally and professionally, inspiring them to lead healthier, more balanced lives.

This initiative, which reflects Seprod’s belief in the positive impact of such programmes on its employees’ lives, reaffirms its dedication to their health and happiness, and underscores the company’s commitment to promoting a culture of well-being within the organisation.
