The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) says that several major roadways in Kingston, St Andrew, St Catherine and St Thomas are seriously impacted by heavy rains associated with Tropical Storm Elsa on Sunday (July 2).
OPDEM, in a series of tweets, said that it had received reports of flooding along Marcus Garvey Drive, Church Street, Spanish Town Road, Waltham Park Road and Hagley Park Road—all in the capital Kingston.
With respect to Marcus Garvey Drive, ODPEM warned due to heavy water all routes near the Tinson Pen Aerodrome are currently impassable.
The agency, warning citizens to stay indoors, added that Class 1 vehicles may experience challenges in the vicinity of Three Miles, St Andrew.
Amateur footage circulating on Twitter also shows a nearly inundated Constant Spring Road in the vicinity of the Half-Way-Tree Transport Centre.

In St Catherine, ODPEM has received reports of several roadways in Portmore being impassable due to flooding. These are Passage Fort Drive, Chatsford Ave and Christian Pen main road in the vicinity of Watson Grove in Gregory Park.
For its part, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is advising the public that section of Nine Miles and the Grants Pen main road in St Thomas are now impassable due to torrential rains affecting the parish.
Commuters are urged to use alternative routes where possible.

A tropical storm warning remains in effect for Jamaica as Elsa crawls just between the island’s north coast and southern Cuba.
