As the Oklahoma City Thunder gear up for the 2025-26 season, star guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is already thinking about what’s next, not just on the court but off it too.

Fresh off a stunning MVP season and an NBA title, Shai put up jaw-dropping numbers, showing he’s the heart and soul of the team. But when it comes to how long he plans to keep playing, he remains adamant that while some legends push into their 40s, that won’t be his path.

At 27, Shai believes he has plenty of basketball ahead but isn’t interested in chasing a career that stretches too far, especially if it means missing out on precious moments with his family.

He wants to retire while he’s still at his best, not waiting around for the clock to run out.

With the Thunder aiming for back-to-back championships, and the new season kicking off on October 21 against the Houston Rockets, all eyes will be on Shai to keep leading his team.
