Another source, volcanodiscovery.com, estimates the earthquake to measure around 4.1 on the Richter scal.

“The Colombian Geological Service (SGC) reported a magnitude 4.1 quake in Jamaica near Kingston, only 17 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Friday, August 16th, 2024, at 8:01 am local time at a shallow depth of 10 km. The exact magnitude, epicentre, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report,” it said.
“Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc,” Volcano Discovery continued.
The tremor follows a 2.9-magnitude earthquake felt earlier this week, on August 11, in the afternoon. Monday’s quake occurred around 3:50 pm and the epicentre near Buff Bay in Portland.
