Chinese fashion giant Shein has re-entered India’s market five years after it was banned by Delhi, under a deal with Indian firm Reliance Retail.

In 2020, Shein and several other Chinese apps, including TikTok, were banned in India due to security concerns.

However, before the ban, the app provided a myriad of options for Indian consumers to buy modern and fashionable designs at affordable prices.

It has been reported that Reliance Retail has entered a long-term licensing agreement with Shein to sell products made and sourced in India on the app.

Shein’s re-launch in the Indian market is also surrounded by strict terms, which include saving all data within the country.

The app, which was launched in India on Friday night, has so far been downloaded by over 10,000 people and is currently delivering to a few a cities, including Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru.

However, according to a notification on the app, services will soon be offered across India.

An official source of Reliance Retail exclaimed that the app will use India as a “supply source for its operations” and will help the company in “building the network” and training Indian garment producers as it exports textiles and garments from India.

Shein has grown over the last decade to become a reputable brand, becoming one of the fastest fashion retailers globally.

Today, it ships to customers in 150 countries across the world.
