After enjoying one of the best seasons of her athletic career, it appears Jamaican sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is thinking twice about hanging up her spikes.

One of the most decorated athletes in modern-day athletics, Fraser-Pryce now 34 years old set rumour mills afire on Tuesday (August 31) after tweeting that she was considering making an Olympic comeback in the 2024 Paris Games.

Fraser-Pryce who took Silver in the women’s 100m, but missed out on a podium finish in the 200m at the recently concluded Tokyo Olympic Games, ran a personal best of 10.60, the third-fastest time in history during the Eugene leg of the Wanda Diamond League on August 26.

At the time, despite running a season’s best Fraser-Pryce proclaimed, “Believe it or not, I still have not run my best race.”

“I know there is more to give because I still need to work further on perfecting my technique. There will be more from me this season, and certainly, my goal is to break into the 10.5 range,” said Fraser-Pryce in a media interview.

While there remains more to give, the second-fastest woman alive seems to be keeping her options open as it relates to participating in the 2024 Games.

Apparently rescinding on a previous statement made in a press interview, in which she answered no to harbouring any thoughts of a return to Paris in three years, Fraser-Pryce stated: “No, I’m not. As I said, God has been good, I’ve had an amazing career and I think, for me, I really hoped that corona (virus pandemic) didn’t happen because this year’s World Championships in Oregon would have been it.”

She continued: “I’m mentally preparing myself to see what next year would bring, because I would definitely love to have my family, all my family, to Portland for the World Championships.”

Whether Fraser-Pryce decides to move forward and partake in the Games, she can rest assured that her fans will wholeheartedly support her venture.
