Jamaican songstress Shenseea is making good on her goal of becoming an international artiste, declaring on Monday (January 31) that this year “will be a movie” following Billboard’s recognition of her as one of 15 artistes to watch for 2022.

The accolade comes on the heels of the Lighter hitmaker’s international headline-making collaboration, Lick with American rapper Megan Thee Stallion.

Shenseea holds the No. 2 spot on the publication’s list after R&B singer Muni Long, whose hit single Hrs and Hrs went viral on TikTok, and became her first song to make the Billboard Hot 100 list.

Referring to the Sure Sure hitmaker as a rising star, Billboard’s write up noted: “Last year, Jamaican polymath Shenseea emerged as a rising star after showcasing her versatility on Kanye West’s Grammy-nominated album DONDA.

“Not only did she spar with West and Rooga on Ok Ok pt 2, but she allowed her singing prowess to take centre stage on Pure Souls. Now, Shenseea looks ready to release her long-awaited debut album after she enlisted hip-hop powerhouse Megan Thee Stallion for her sugary single, Lick.”

As Shenyeng fans await the release of Shenseea’s debut album, Alpha, slated for release in March, the Billboard listing could be a foretelling of the artiste’s future success.

The Billboard’s artistes to watch is an annual listing of the names to watch for in hip-hop and R&B as emerging artistes hoping for their big breakthrough.
