With just two weeks before Shenseea releases her sophomore studio album Never Gets Late Here, the artiste took some time to reflect on her career and the importance a collaboration with Kanye West had on boosting her career.
As part of crossover efforts, the dancehall standout has been featured in songs with American artistes such as Masego, Christina Aguilera and Kanye “Ye” West.
Looking back at those endeavours, Shenseea told Billboard in a recent interview, “One of the moments I knew things changed was when I did the collaboration with Kanye.”
“I felt like that opened a whole different type of doors — fashion, hip-hop, different artists just reaching out. I think that Kanye is cool, as much as how he’s artistic, he’s a cool person to look at. Always entertaining. I feel like me being associated with him, it has led me to a lot of open doors.”

Shenseea and Kanye offered their support to Roddy Rich on the track Pure Souls, from the rapper’s Donda album which charted on Billboard’s 200.
The collaboration earned all three artistes nominations for album of the year at the 2022 Grammys.
On her previous project Alpha, Shenseea saw chart-topping artistes like 21 Savage, Beenie Man, Megan Thee Stallion, Offset, Sean Paul and Tyga lending their voices in collaborations. That set peaked at No. 2 on Billboard’s Top Reggae Albums and at No. 3 on Heatseekers Albums.
For her upcoming LP set for release on May 24, the singjay has delivered a few singles. On Tuesday, April 30, she unveiled the LP’s full track list, including collaborations with Coi Leray, Anitta and Wizkid. So far, the album’s lead single “Hit & Run”, featuring with Masicka and produced Di Genius, has amassed nearly 40 million views on YouTube for its official music video.
