Shericka Jackson bested a high-calibre field to retain her 100-metre title in an explosive final at the Jamaica National Championships on Friday night (June 29).
Jackson, seeking to make the team representing Jamaica at the Paris Olympic Games this summer, recovered from a slow start to win in a sporty 10.84 seconds ahead of 19-year-old sprinting prodigy Tia Clayton (10.90s) and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (10.94s).
Jamaicans gathered in the National Stadium roared fanatically for Fraser-Pryce, who qualifies for her fifth consecutive Olympic Games. Clayton etched herself into the history books just hours earlier, as she tipped Jackson in the semi-final round with a lifetime-best effort of 10.86s.
Sashalee Forbes, while finishing fourth, also earned Olympic qualification with a time of 11.04 seconds.
Rounding out the relay placements from the final are Forbes, Kemba Nelson (11.14s) and Alana Reid (11.14s).
