Jamaican sprint star Shericka Jackson, despite pulling out of the blue-ribbon 100-metre dash at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, is today (July 31) ensuring fans that she is okay and ready to compete in the women’s 200m.

Responding to questions about her incident in Hungary causing any lingering injuries, Shericka explained, “I’m okay. I had a slight cramp in Hungary, but right now, the decision to focus on the 100m is more about protecting my body and ensuring I’m at my best for the 200m.”

She added that she is not expecting to break the world record at the Olympics.

When asked if she feels at peace with her decision to pull out from the 100m, Jackson said, “I’m always at peace. You have to make decisions that are best for your body, mind, and soul. I’m okay with the decision.”

Jackson said winning gold in Paris would be particularly meaningful for her since she has yet to secure an individual Olympic gold medal.

She credits her performance largely to the support from her coach and track club MVP’s support staff.

“It’s a combination of both the athlete and the entire MVP staff. They deserve all the credit for recovery and maintaining my performance,” Jackson noted.
