Jamaica’s 2022 World Championship 200m gold medallist Shericka Jackson will make her seasonal debut in the 60m at the 23rd staging of the Queens Grace Jackson Meet at the National Stadium this Saturday, January 25.
Jackson, who withdrew from the 100m and 200m at the 2024 Paris Olympics, has not raced since and it will be left to see how she will perform.
The 30-year-old Jackson has a 60m outdoor best of 7.23 set in February 2022 and will line up against a quality field including Joneille Smith, Amoi Brown, Jodean Williams, Krystal Sloley, Shockoria Wallace and Anthonique Strachan of the Bahamas.
Jackson who is Jamaica’s 200 record holder with 21.41 which is the second fastest time in history, is not the quickest out of the blocks and she should be tested by Smith who clocked 7.18 last week when she finished second to Tia Clayton at the Central Hurdles Meet at GC Foster.

Williams who has a best of 7.16, Anthonique Strachan with 7.21 and hurdler Brown with 7.37 should give Jackson most to do.
Jackson is the first athlete in history to win a full set of World Championships medals across three sprint disciplines following her 400m bronze in 2015 and 100m silver and 200m gold in 2022 in Oregon.
This is expected to be another big year for the MVP star as she is expected to carry the fight for Jamaica, especially with the uncertainty of the ageing Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and the injury-prone Elaine Thompson-Herah.
Meanwhile, Zharnel Hughes of Great Britain and Racers will line up in the men’s 60m and will face the likes of Sprintec’s Brendon Rodney of Canada and MVP’s Cejhee Green of Antigua. Local boys Kadrian Goldson, Tyquendo Tracey and the improving Adrian Kerr of Motorcade Track Club could make his presence felt.
Last week, Tia Clay who was seventh at the Paris Olympics in the 100m, opened her season clocking 7.14 and she is expected to be Jackson’s main rival despite both at the same MVP club.
