In a major sporting development, Jamaican national champion Shericka Jackson has withdrawn from the women’s 100-metre dash at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Jackson, who attended a press event at Puma House in Paris today (July 31), did not disclose a reason for her withdrawal, again sidestepping injury rumours, but said that she would instead focus her efforts on the 200 metres.

“Yes, I’m only running the 200 metres here,” she said definitively.

She expressed her desire to compete at the highest level for her third Olympic Games, maintaining that her goal is “just to focus now”.

Jackson will be replaced by Shashalee Forbes in the event.

There have been concerns about Jackson’s fitness after she pulled up mid-race in the women’s 200m at the Hungarian Athletics Grand Prix earlier in July.

Round one of the women’s 100m at the Paris Olympics is scheduled for Friday at the Stade de France.
