Shunna-Gay “Sugah” Mitchell: The spirit behind Worthy Park Estate’s Rum Tour

Since becoming the tour supervisor in 2019, Shunna-Gay ‘Sugah’ Mitchell has been infusing the spirit of her signature charisma into the immersive adventure rum tour at Worthy Park Estate.

With her magnetic personality, Mitchell has transformed the tour into a captivating experience, drawing thousands of guests each week to the estate’s doors, making it an award-winning, must-visit destination.

Known affectionately as ‘Sugah’, her charisma guides guests through a one-and-a-half-hour immersive journey. From riding the jitney to witnessing the art of rum-making, the tour culminates with a rum flight tasting, showcasing the Rum-Bar and Worthy Park brands.

“I knew I had to seize the opportunity,” Shunna-Gay reminisces when she saw the job advertisement. “I envisioned myself as the perfect fit – a self-starter capable of independently steering the Visitor Centre and Rum Tour.”

She grew as a leader by constantly developing herself and embracing people of varying backgrounds.

“As a supervisor, I’m committed to fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation,” Shunna-Gay said. “We embrace novel marketing strategies and value feedback from our diverse visitors to continually enhance the tour experience.”

“Diversity and inclusion aren’t just buzzwords but the cornerstones of our success. By championing inclusivity, we unlock a wealth of perspectives and experiences, driving creativity and excellence,” she continued.

Despite the challenges she’s faced with as a woman in leadership, Shunna-Gay remains resolute.

“With a supportive network of mentors and peers, I advocate for myself and future female leaders. Together, we dismantle barriers and cultivate a more equitable workplace,” she added

Mitchell’s journey at Worthy Park Estate epitomises the spirit of International Women’s Day, a celebration of resilience, empowerment, and the unwavering pursuit of excellence.
