Jamaica on Sunday (July 24) closed off its exploits at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, mining silver in three events on the night to bring the country’s medal haul to 10 – two gold, seven silver and a bronze.
With second-place medals for Britany Anderson in the women’s 100m hurdles and Jamaica in the men’s and women’s 4×400 relays, the small island nation ended the 10-day championships ranked #3 on the medal table behind only the United States and Ethiopia.
In the men’s 4×400, the team of Akeem Bloomfield, Nathon Allen, Jevaughn Powell and Christopher Taylor finished in a season’s best time of 2:58.58 to finish behind the United States who set a world lead time of 2:56.17 for gold.
In the women’s 4×400, the Jamaican team of Candice McLeod, Janieve Russell, Stephenie Ann McPherson and Charokee Young captured Jamaica’s final medal of the championships by setting a season’s best time of 3:20.74, behind only the United States, who won in a world lead 3:17.79.
