Promoters of the Soca+ Festival will be hosting a six-a-side charity football match today (September 25) at Sabina Park in Kingston.

The charity event commences at 6:00 pm with 10 registered teams that will be playing to win a Soca+ Cabana with 12 complimentary tickets, a premium bottle and a 750ml bottle of Campari.

“As individuals we have always done philanthropic efforts but this year in celebration of 12 years of I Love Soca Cooler Festival and our second staging of Soca+ as a 12 hour music festival; we’ve decided to show our gratitude through an organised charity engagement with all proceeds being donated to the University of the West Indies Hospital Renal Unit,” said Andrew Bellamy, managing director of I Love Soca Cooler Festival.

Powered by Campari teams have been invited to participate with an entry fee of J$20,000.

All spectators are free to enter the charity football match. The knock out rounds will last eight minutes, the quarter finals will be 10 minutes, semi-finals will last for 12 minutes and the final is scheduled for 15 minutes.

In additional, the second-placed team will receive 12 complimentary tickets, one table and two bottles of 750ml of Campari, third place will earn six complimentary tickets, one table and one bottle of 750ml of Campari.

A study by the UWI/CAIHR (2016-17) revealed that there are more than 2,700 chronic kidney cases in Jamaica with over 800 receiving dialysis. In 2018, a World Health Organization (WHO) study stated that kidney disease deaths in Jamaica reached 686 or 3.77 per cent of total deaths.

“We want to thank all the teams that have come forward to participate for this cause not just for competitive bragging rights and a chance to have an elevated experience at Soca+ but most importantly to contribute to the assistance we will be giving to the Renal Unit at the University Hospital because the truth is; we never know when our family, friends or any one of us will need to use the services of these places and we want to ensure that whomever uses it gets the best care with the best resources,” said Bellamy.

The second staging of Soca+ Festival kicks off on September 30 until 10:00 am on October 1 at Sabina Park.
