Residents of St Catherine Central are lauding Government minister and Member of Parliament Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange for the successful staging of the first in a series of community market and business fairs, held in Spanish Town on Saturday (January 23).
The event, which brought together local businesses, farmers, several government agencies and departments as well as scores of shoppers, was piloted by Grange in collaboration with the Social Development Commission (SDC).
The Spanish Town Community Market and Business Fair was held at the examination depot of the old capital.
Grange, who was also pleased with the fair’s positive reception, said she intends to create more local economic empowerment initiatives to respond to the challenges created by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

“It was most pleasing to see the residents coming out early to get their reasonably priced products, services and information while getting their COVID-19 test done!” she said.
“Thanks to all participating organizations. Next stop is Gordon Pen, Ensom Division,” Grange added in a Facebook post.
COVID-19 testing was just one of several tents set up at the fair, which also saw residents enjoying competitive prices for farm produce, vegetables and household spices.

Attendees could also apply for or renew their passports, with the help of a team from the Passport Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA).
