Spanish Town High withdraws from Manning Cup leaving 39 teams

Spanish Town High School became the latest institution to withdraw from the InterSecondary Schools Sports Association’s (ISSA) Manning Cup, joining Oberlin High and Kingston High.

Their withdrawal leaves the competition with 39 teams.

The Manning Cup is set to kickoff on September 7 with defending champion Mona High tackling Waterford High at 2:00 pm at Catherine Hall in St James.

At 4:00 pm, defending DaCosta Cup champion Clarendon College play Denbigh High before Cornwall College take on Herbert Morrison at 6:00 pm.

It will cost patrons $1,000 for admission to the grandstand and $500 for bleachers.

Eighty-three teams will contest the DaCosta Cup with the clash between the All Manning XI and the All DaCosta Cup XI concluding the season in January 2025.

Meanwhile, ISSA has said that students can now play club football during the schoolboy season.

Clarendon College are the defending DaCosta Cup and All-Island champion while Mona High are first-time defending champion of the Manning Cup.

Jamaica College are the defending Walker Cup champions contested by Corporate Area teams, while McGrath High etched their name on the rural Ben Francis Cup.
