Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport Olivia Grange on Tuesday (June 21) announced that the ministry would be giving the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) further support of $25 million.

Grange was speaking during the press launch of the JAAA’s National Senior and Junior Championships 2022.

“The $25 million being provided through the Sports Development Foundation (SDF) is in response to the JAAA’s request for $10 million for the World Championships, $5 million for the World Juniors, $5 million for the Junior Camp and $5 million for the World Indoors.

“This follows the $10 million we provided the JAAA to host the recently held JAAA/SDF Jubilee Series.

“We commend the JAAA for the work it has been doing and my ministry is quite happy to support the association as much as we can.

“I know that riveting performances await us at the Championships since a number of our top athletes will be competing. A highlight in its own right is the return of spectators to the National Stadium following the limitations that were put on us by COVID-19.

“I encourage all of us to continue to cheer on our athletes and support them with our good wishes and prayers.”
