There were wide smiles in the audience after Sports Minister Olivia Grange announced an increase in prize monies totalling $1.4m for the INPORTS netball and football all-island competitions on Tuesday inside the National Arena.
St Patrick’s Primary of Kingston and St Andrew won the netball title last year, beating Bethabara Primary of Manchester 23-21 and are favourites to retain their crown and the new prize money of $300,000 up from $200,000 in 2024.
St James’ Corinaldi Primary won the football title beating Rosseau Primary of Kingston and St Andrew 6-5 on penalties and they too were smiling at the increase in prize monies.
The second-placed teams will walk away with $200,000, up from $175,000.

Last year third-placed teams collected $75,000; this year that will be doubled to $150,000 and fourth place will take home $100,000 up from $50,000. The winning netball and football coaches will each receive $20,000 instead of the $10,000 they got last year.
Approximately 280 schools and over 10,000 participants in netball and football will participate as INSPORTS continue to fulfil its mandate of unearthing talent at the grassroots level.
The sports minister said INSPORTS had done a “superb” job in successfully staging the Primary Schools All Island Football and Netball Competitions for 15 years.

“So, I consider it appropriate right now to congratulate, to big up INSPORTS and to say thanks to our partners—the leadership of football and netball, the Jamaica Football Federation and the Netball Jamaica—for their support,” said Grange.
“I must also commend the schools which have participated, the coaches who have prepared the children both physically and mentally for these competitions and their support staff,” she added.

The start date for both competitions will be announced soon.
