Commanding officer for the St Ann Police Division, Senior Superintendent (SSP) Dwight Powell, is urging motorists traversing the roadways across the parish to remain safe by obeying the rules of the road.

“Safe driving is a responsibility that every motorist must take seriously,” SSP Powell warns, adding that adhering to the rules of the road protects every category of road user, from drivers to pedestrians.

“Obey the speed limit; this will assist with reaction time and [determine] accident severity,” SSP Powell advises.

He also admonishes road users to stay focused. “No texting, eating or adjusting your GPS while driving,” he says.

Powell’s advice comes on the heels of a crash on Huntley Avenue, Browns Town in the parish on the weekend. The two-vehicle crash claimed the life of 20-year-old Quami Howlett, a labourer of Philadelphia district, Browns Town in St Ann.

Reports from the Browns Town Police are that Howlett was driving his motorcycle along towards Browns Town when he negotiated a corner and collided with a motor truck. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
