Forty-two-year-old Stephen Cunningham, a teacher at a St Catherine-based school, has been charged with rape following an incident involving a female student last month.

Reports are that sometime in March, Cunningham held down a female student on more than one occasion and sexually assaulted her whilst she was attending classes.

A report was made and he was taken into custody and charged following a question-and-answer session in the presence of his attorney.

Cunningham, a resident of Gregory Park, St Catherine, was charged by detectives assigned to the Centre for Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA).

His court date has not yet been finalised.
