A male teacher at a St Catherine-based institution has been charged following sexual misconduct accusations levied against him by a student under his supervision.

The name of the 30-year-old teacher and the school at which he works are being withheld pending further investigations.

Furthermore, the police say anonymity was done primarily for the supposed victim, a 12-year-old girl who attends the school.

The teacher in question has been charged based on allegations that he touched the child inappropriately, extending his crimes to direct sexual assault and grooming.

It is believed that the teacher committed the acts on school property.

Shortly after these acts, the incident was reported to the police, which launched a probe into the matter.

The teacher was later arrested after a question-and-answer session in the presence of his attorney on Thursday (June 27).

A court date has not yet been finalised.
