St Catherine truck assistant charged with fraud

A St Catherine truck assistant has been charged with multiple fraud-related offences following an incident in Portmore on Friday, September 27.

Forty-one-year-old Rushawn Bygrave, of Claremount Housing Scheme, Old Harbour, faces charges of unauthorised access to computer data, uttering fraudulent documents, and simple larceny.

According to police reports, between September 27 and September 30, Bygrave gained unauthorized access to a complainant’s bank account. He allegedly used a fraudulent identification card to conduct several unauthorised transactions totalling JMD $1,980,000.

The complainant was alerted to the fraudulent activity by their bank and subsequently filed a police report.

Bygrave was apprehended at a business establishment in Portmore while inquiring about the status of his fraudulent purchase. He was charged following a question-and-answer session with police in the presence of his attorney.

His court date is currently being finalised.
