St Kitts and Nevis diplomat kidnapped in Haiti

St Kitts and Nevis diplomat and businessman Harold Marzouka Jr has been kidnapped in Haiti.

According to several media reports, the deputy-general counsel of St Kitts and Nevis was one of three people kidnapped by armed men in Haiti on Saturday (April 15).

It is said that two other businessmen and Marzouka, who is also the CEO of Haiti Plastics, were travelling through the Delmas neighborhood in the capital Port-au-Prince, when their convoy was ambushed.

Reports are that the vehicles belonging to the businessmen were set on fire.

The burnt-out vehicles in which the men were said to be travelling.

This comes as a recent report by human rights group CARDH indicated that kidnappings in the Caribbean country have increased threefold when compared to the last quarter of 2022. 

In Haiti, kidnappings for ransom have surged as armed gangs have taken over numerous neighborhoods as a result of the nation’s political unrest.
