Cavalier’s head coach Rudolph Speid is one tenterhook following another lighting issue at the National Stadium putting him at the mercy of the regional governing body, the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF).

Jamaican champion Cavalier was the host team in the 2024 CONCACAF Caribbean Cup where they crashed 1-2 defeat to Real Hope FA of Haiti.

But the game was halted for approximately 18 minutes as sections of the Stadium lights went out just before half-time.

Speid, while speaking at the post-match briefing, was asked if he was worried about a possible fine by the regional ruling body CONCACAF.

“Well, in fairness if you are the host, it’s your fault and I am just hoping that they saw this as force majeure,” said Speid.

In February, Cavalier were fined US$10,000 by CONCACAF for hosting a match inside the National Stadium which was affected by poor lighting for their match against FC Cincinnati.

Then, in June, Jamaica’s FIFA World Cup game against the Dominican Republic was moved from a 6:30 p.m. start time to three hours earlier because of poor lighting.

The government, through Independent Park Limited, had spent a reported $15m to improve the lights.
