In the late 1960s and early 1970s, while studying and teaching in Trinidad and Tobago, I also served—unofficially but passionately—as a missionary to high school and university students.
Through ministries like the Inter-School Christian Fellowship (ISCF), InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF), Youth for Christ, and G-Teens (a Bible-based mentoring initiative I founded and funded), I discipled dozens of young minds. One stood out clearly even then: Wayne Rock.
Wayne accepted Jesus Christ under our ministry and lived out his commitment from the start. After graduating at the top of his class from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Academy, he served with distinction in North Trinidad, particularly in Laventille—a community often described as one of the most under-resourced and violence-afflicted in the nation. Thirty years ago, Wayne transitioned from police service to pastoral ministry. He answered God’s call to shepherd a Church of the Nazarene congregation right in the heart of Laventille.
There were no television cameras, no sponsorships, and no fame. Yet for three unbroken decades, Pastor Rock gave sacrificially of his time, energy, resources, and comfort. He never sought reward—only to serve the people most others had long forgotten.
Today, Pastor Wayne Rock urgently needs our help. He is suffering from a severe spinal condition requiring urgent surgery. A previous laminectomy in 2004 offered only brief relief. Now, with eight spinal nerves compressed, he is in constant pain and rapidly losing mobility. Without immediate surgery, he may soon be unable to walk or function.
The total cost of the surgery is TT$157,000 (approximately USD 23,088). His insurance will cover TT$100,000 (around USD 14,706), leaving a balance of TT$57,000—roughly USD 8,382—that must be raised quickly.
As someone who mentored and walked alongside Wayne from his youth, I have pledged my support. I now extend this appeal to friends and well-wishers across Jamaica, Trinidad, CARICOM and the global Christian diaspora.
In Wayne’s own words:
“Because of your influence in my life, I spared no expense in my 30 years pastoring one church and giving my all. Now I literally have nothing to fall back on—except the goodwill of my brothers and sisters in Christ…”
Let us answer this call.
How You Can Help:

Let us be like the friends in Luke 5 who broke through a roof to bring their ailing brother to Jesus. Your gift—no matter how small—may be the very answer to Pastor Wayne’s prayer.
“Whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” — Proverbs 11:25
Now is our time to refresh a man who gave his life refreshing others.
