St Andrew Technical High and Kingston College captured the ISSA Mighty Malt Under 16 and Burger Kinger Under 14 titles with identical 1-0 wins over Excelsior High and St George’s College at the Stadium East field on Friday.
Both teams scored in the identical sixth minute as Kelvin Bown fired home for St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) and Ras-Renaldiho Harriott netted for KC. His twin brother Ras-Renaldino Harriott didn’t play but also collected his winners’ medal.
It was a welcomed victory for STATHS that ended a finals drought having seen their Under-19 team lose four Manning Cup finals and a Walker Cup final, all in penalty kicks. Coached by former Boys Town and Portmore United player Anthony Bennett, STATHS looked the better team throughout and are deserved winners.

Excelsior gave it their all in what was a close and tense encounter but they could not find a way through a solid STATHS backline. STATHS collected $200,000 from the Grace Mighty Malt brand.
Meanwhile, in the Under-14 final, KC emerged victorious over their North Street rivals in a game where they were wasteful and should have won much easier. KC celebrated their second title having won the Under-19 Manning Cup last week.

The Fames Purples collected $88,000 worth of burgers from sponsors Burger King’s initiative of $1,000 for every goal scored in the semis and finals. KC did wallop Calabar High 7-0 in the semis plus one in the final.
