Sterling Asset Management recently sponsored the highly anticipated Jamaica Pro Golf League Series at the Caymanas Golf Club on August 12-13, 2024, which showcased the talents of top golfers.

The event, co-sponsored by the Sports Development Foundation, also provided a unique platform for caddies, who often lack the resources to participate in major tournaments, to demonstrate their skills and compete in a supportive environment, inspiring all with their dedication and passion for the game.

First place went to Damion Spencer who delivered a stellar performance in the Amateur Division, showcasing consistent accuracy and precision throughout the two-day tournament. His short, solid game and strategic approach to the challenging Caymanas course earned him the top spot, securing a well-deserved first-place finish.

Everald Spence took second place. Spence put up a commendable fight, staying close on Spencer’s heels with powerful drives and steady putting keeping him in contention.

Finishing at third place was Major Desmon Brown who demonstrated resilience and determination. His performance was a testament to his experience and ability to handle pressure on the course.

In the Professional Division, Kevin McDonald dominated the section with a commanding performance. His impeccable swing mechanics and course management allowed him to stay ahead of the competition. McDonald’s consistent ability to make crucial birdies and avoid costly mistakes was key to his victory, earning him the top prize.

Seasoned pro Wesley Brown displayed his vast experience by keeping pace with McDonald throughout the tournament. Despite a few challenging holes, his precision off the tee and consistent putting secured him a second-place finish.

Sean Green’s play-style paid off with an impressive third-place finish.

In the Senior Professional Division, veteran Peter Horrobin showcased his deep knowledge of the game and mastery of the Caymanas course. His ability to navigate the course’s complexities with precision and confidence secured him first place, adding another title to his illustrious career.

Joel Campbell gave Horrobin a run for his money, staying competitive with steady play and a focus on minimising errors. His consistent approach and ability to remain calm under pressure led to a solid second-place finish.

Ian Christie’s experience was evident as he navigated the course with patience and strategic play. Despite a few challenging holes, his perseverance and ability to recover from setbacks ensured a third-place finish, rounding out the Senior Professional Division’s top three.

The tournament attracted top amateur and professional golfers across the island, and was a testament to the competitive spirit of the game. Each player delivered outstanding performances, showcasing their exceptional skill, dedication, and passion for the game. Winners in each division were honoured with trophies and prizes, a fitting recognition of their hard-fought victories.

The Caymanas Golf Club, renowned for its challenging courses and stunning scenery, provided the ideal setting for the event. Favourable weather conditions throughout the two-day tournament ensured an enjoyable experience for both players and spectators.

Sterling Asset Management’s commitment to supporting local sports and creating opportunities for athletes to showcase their talents on a national stage is unwavering.

“We are thrilled to have sponsored this year’s golf tournament and to witness such remarkable talent,” said Michelle Valentine, assistant vice-president of marketing and communications at Sterling Asset Management. “Supporting events like this aligns perfectly with our commitment to promoting excellence, discipline, and community engagement.
