Popular American streamer Dr DisRespect broke his years-long ban by Twitch in 2020, as new details emerged that he had been inappropriately messaging a minor.

Bloomberg then reported that Dr DisRespect was allegedly banned for sending explicit messages to a minor, citing three sources. The news took the internet by storm, forcing DisRespect to put out a rather lengthy statement on his X account.

Streamers Kai Cenat, Ninja, Shroud, XQC, Itztimmy and many others have spoken out against DisRespect, Cenat unfollowing him live on stream.

In the post titled ‘The Twitch Ban’, he began by stating he was going to get straight to the point, saying: “Everyone has been wanting to know why I was banned from Twitch, but for reasons outside of my control, I was not allowed to say anything for the last several years.”

“Now that two former Twitch employees have publicly disclosed the accusations, I can now tell you my side of the story regarding the ban. Were there Twitch whisper messages with an individual minor back in 2017? The answer is yes. Were there real intentions behind these messages, the answer is absolutely not. These were casual, mutual conversations that sometimes leaned too much in the direction of being inappropriate, but nothing more. Nothing illegal happened, no pictures were shared, no crimes were committed, I never even met the individual (sic),” he continued.

“From a moral standpoint, I’ll absolutely take responsibility. I should have never entertained these conversations, to begin with. That’s on me. That’s on me as an adult, a husband and a father. It should have never happened. I get it. I’m not perfect and I’ll f*cking own my shit. This was stupid (sic),” he added.

DisRespect went on to express his disapproval of the loosely labelled remarks on social media, stating that he is not a predator or paedophile and that they are not ashamed of the exaggerations being made about him. He pointed out that the internet runs with narratives for sheer shock value.

“If any of this has made you uncomfortable, I get it. You don’t have to support me anymore but just know you have always been greatly appreciated.”

He expressed great discomfort with the accusations, acknowledging that he may be perceived as unprofessional, but he is not going anywhere.

“I’m not the same guy that made this mistake all those years ago. I’m taking an extended vacation with my family as mentioned on stream and I’m coming back with a heavy weight off my shoulders.”

“They want me to disappear… yeah f*cking right,” he said.

Before this statement, the game studio he co-founded, Midnight Society cut him loose. Robert Bowling, the studio director, had more to say after his statement, “If you inappropriately message a minor. I can not work with you. Period.” he posted on his X.

DisRespect has not released any further statements on the matter.
