Jamaica’s coach Sasher-Gaye Henry-Wright said Sunshine Girls are in a building process following their 3-0 sweep of South Africa in the Margaret Beckford Netball series on Saturday.
The Sunshine Girls won the Third Test 58-47 and remarkably, Jamaica has contained South Africa to 47 points in all three games winning 55-47 and 59-47 in the first and second games respectively.
“We’re excited. We’re so grateful for this journey. We give God thanks for it, it’s an amazing journey and the girls did an extraordinary job,” said Henry-Wright.
Once again, the Sunshine Girls were led by goal shooter Shimona Jok who scored 37 goals from 39 attempts and goal attack Shanice Beckford netted 14 from 18 attempts while Rhea Dixon scored her five from five and maintained her 100 per cent shooting.
Elmere Van Der Berg replied with 30 from 33 attempts for South Africa with the impressive Kamegelo Maseko scoring 16 from 17 attempts.
“We’re in a building process. We have a lot more work to be done in order to continue our journey, but we really love this start and all we can do is just to continue to build on these performances,” Henry-Wright reiterated.
“One of the big things to talk about is building players individually and I think we wanted to allow each player to get on court to do some work and we had some targets that we wanted to meet. I think we met some. We didn’t achieve some,” she pointed out.
“But, I mean, we just definitely will go back and continue our building process. Continue our individual work with the girls. So, collectively, I mean, we can achieve our goal in our next encounter. I think we had a good team behind the team. The support from the media, the fans, our sponsors,” she added.
