Sunwing now laying roots in Cuba

Rebuilt and renovating 11 resorts for available to travelers on the island

Canadian travel company, Sunwing has added a new destination in Cuba at Cayo Largo, located off the island’s southern coast. 

Sunwing is reporting that it will have 11 resorts available to travelers on the Caribbean island, many of which are currently being rebuilt or renovated as early as November this year. The resorts will be rebranded as Grand Memories, Memories, Starfish and Villa properties. 

The island is known for having some of the best diving in the wider Caribbean. It also places a premium on sustainability, with only electric vehicles allowed and a ban on plastic use. 

Commenting on the news, Andrew Dawson, president of tour operations for Sunwing, said: “Cuba has long held its top spot as a Canadian favourite for Sunwing customers and, as we expand on our offerings to welcome more guests back to this beautiful island, we’re thrilled to bring new life to Cayo Largo with Sunwing as the destination’s leading choice of tour operator in the Canadian market.”

Continuing, Dawson explained: “Cayo Largo offers an intimate experience in a small, boutique setting that our customers won’t find anywhere else in Cuba, along with great weather, beautiful beaches, new all-inclusive offerings and now with an exclusive international food import license, more comforts of home, all at an attractive price point. We anticipate the fall and winter season in this destination hot spot will sell fast.”

Sunwing is operating five weekly direct flights from multiple Canadian cities to Cayo Largo; that includes Friday flights from Toronto and Montreal; Saturdays from Quebec City and Ottawa; and Tuesdays from Halifax. 

The first flights begin November 4.
