With a vision of pushing Jamaican culture forward, allowing and encouraging the creativity of the Jamaican youth to flow freely, New Wave and parent company Very Culture have taken action in creating social platforms and events for that creativity to be commemorated and experienced by the masses.
Celebrity Closet, the annual thrifting experience initiated by New Wave, allows people from all over the nation to come and grab beautiful and quality pieces for as low as J$100, or as sought after as the newest pair of Clarks Wallabees. Items are donated by all sorts of persons – whether they be influencers, celebrities or everyday people.
Recently, persons rolled out enthusiastically in support of New Wave’s annual initiative and, of course, to add some more style to their closets.
With a line forming up to an hour before the commencement of the event, and more than 350 persons showing up throughout the day, New Wave has high hopes that this year’s profit will surpass last year’s proceedings of J$400,000.
The Angelic Ladies Society, an organisation that focuses on the empowerment and development, as well as the overall care, of women in Jamaican state facilities, was the recipient in 2021. This year, an organisation that promotes and supports youths who are looking to seek non-traditional career paths in the Arts – the Alpha School of Music, is being blessed with the profits of the initiative.
With the support of the general public, celebrities, sponsors and young volunteers- New Wave’s director, Lindsey Lodenquai, expressed her gratitude enthusiastically in a public statement after the event.
As a part of their mission to provide platforms to young creatives, New Wave provided Alpha’s very own DJ, DJ Luke, with the opportunity to perform his own set during the event.
