The Supreme Court has given the greenlight for Jamaican conglomerate, GraceKennedy Limited to have its annual general meeting (AGM) virtually.

The company has advised that it has obtained from the Supreme Court, in its petition filed, an order on May 6 giving permission to hold its general meetings by virtual or electronic or hybrid means, in light of the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Given the court’s permission, the company has gone ahead in convening its AGM virtually on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the GraceKennedy Headquarters, 42-56 Harbour Street, Kingston, Jamaica. Details on attendance and participation are available at www.gracekennedy.com.

The conglomerate reports that the approximate duration of the meeting is three hours. In recent time, the Supreme Court has given permission for a number of listed companies to have their AGM and other generally meetings virtually.

Among the companies to have got such permission are Barita, Jamaica National and Salada Foods. Shareholders will be able to vote electronically at the AGM and to receive notices of the meeting and other documents by email or other electronic means.

The request for holding the AGM virtually is due to the government COVID-19 gathering protocols restricting public gathering and the requirement for social distancing, which necessitate the meeting being held virtually to comply with these measures.
