The Supreme Ventures Foundation has announced the first winner of its Supreme Heroes Programme, which sought to highlight the efforts of participants who were positively impacting their communities.

After weeks of voting by the public for their community heroes, Jennifer Brown, who operates Miss Jenny’s Corner shop in Flankers, St James, has been named the winner of the competition. She is also the recipient of the People’s Choice Award.

Brown says she is grateful to be the recipient of the award and looks forward to continuing her work in her community.

“I’ll take this award back to Norwood. My dream is to see a community centre for the youth in Norwood. I want to thank the SVF Board, especially Chairman Peter McConnell and Director Heather Goldson. I am humbled,” she said after collecting her award.

As the winner, she will be receiving another grant that will not only bolster her social enterprise activities but also empower herself and her community.

Brown was among four community heroes that were a part of the initiative. The other heroes were also recipients of awards. The Life Yard Restaurant and Eco-Tourism in Parade Gardens Kingston won the Most Sustainable Community Award, the New Horizons Christian Outreach in Spanish Town was awarded the Most Innovative Initiative Award while Miss T’s Hardware run by Elma Thompson won the Most Impactful Community Award.

Director of the Supreme Ventures Foundation, Heather Goldson says the organisation is proud of the programme and looks forward to continuing the initiative.

“It’s a wonderful feeling for the foundation, to be able to elevate and do our part in recognising nd rewarding our unsung heroes. We are so proud of what this programme has been able to achieve, impacting so many lives in so many different areas and our four heroes really just demonstrate that in such a great way,” she said.

The Supreme Ventures Foundation hopes to encourage others to continue supporting and celebrating initiatives that build stronger communities.
