Passenger traffic at Cancun International Airport surged in 2022 with a nearly 36 per cent jump over the previous year.

This was confirmed in a newly released data from ASUR, which manages the airport.

Passenger traffic in Cancun totaled 30.34 million last year, which also represented a 19.1 per cent increase over 2019, before the onset of the pandemic.

The surge included a 2.93 million passengers in December, a 27.8 per cent improvement over 2019. Passenger numbers do not include transit passengers.

Cancun has been one of the world’s hottest destinations since the pandemic with a growing wave of new airlift, particularly from cities in the United States.

ASUR manages a portfolio of airports in Mexico, Colombia and Puerto Rico.
