Suspect charged in Montego Bay killing of British man

Javaughn Brown has been charged with the murder of Sean Patterson, a British national who was shot and killed during a visit to the island early this year.

Patterson was a 33-year-old personal trainer who resided in West London. Reports are that he was at the One Love Villa in Bogue Hill guesthouse in St James on January 2 when he was approached by an armed man with a handgun. He was shot multiple times in the upper body and was pronounced dead at hospital.

Brown is a 23-year-old from Baillieston in Clarendon who was charged with murder and the use of a prohibited weapon to commit murder. The charge for the use of a prohibited weapon was recommended by Paula Llewellyn, Director of Public Prosecution.

According to reports, his arrest was due to comprehensive work by detectives during an operation in Kingston by members of the Counter-Terrorism and Organized Crime branch (C-TOC). Patterson’s murder is believed to have been a contract killing.

Brown was interviewed in the presence of his attorney and gave a caution statement. A court date is being arranged.
