Symptai Consulting Limited, an IT consulting firm operating in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean, has launched the first ‘Jamaica Data Protection Act (JDPA)’ online and on-demand training courses.

This comprehensive course, developed by expert data privacy practitioners, provides professionals with the necessary knowledge to navigate requirements under the Jamaica Data Protection Act when it becomes fully implemented on November 30, 2023.

Symptai, the only International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) accredited training provider in the Caribbean, is renowned for their compelling data privacy training and sensitisation sessions since 2018.

The company, in a statement, says it has gone one step further to create a new JDPA course that covers all the key aspects of the data protection laws within Jamaica.

The course is designed to enhance participants’ understanding of the JDPA, including the rights of data subjects and the responsibilities of data controllers and processors. It outlines the major tenets of the law and examines the implications for those who collect, store, process, share and ultimately dispose of personal data.

One participant, who recently completed the course shared their experience, stating, “Overall, the course provided a comprehensive understanding of the data protection laws and regulations within Jamaica and was well-structured and covered all the key aspects of the data protection laws. I would highly recommend this course to anyone seeking to enhance their data protection knowledge and skills.”

Upon completion of the JDPA course, participants will have a clear understanding of the necessity of implementing data protection laws, the fundamental constructs of the Jamaica Data Protection Act, and the vital responsibilities that organisations must fulfill to comply with the law.

This knowledge will assist them in developing and implementing effective data privacy programmes.

The course is divided into five short modules and can be completed in as little as two hours, making it a convenient choice for busy professionals. It is beneficial for individuals interested in deepening their understanding of the JDPA, those who have undergone CIPM, CIPP, or CIPT training with Symptai, individuals who will be fulfilling the role of data protection officers within their respective companies, as well as organisations processing personally identifiable information or personal data for corporate bodies or individuals (living or deceased for up to 30 years).
