Thomas Dexter ‘T.D.’ Jakes, the renowned American pastor and motivational speaker, revealed that he had to undergo emergency surgery after suffering a recent health scare during a church service at The Potter’s House of Dallas, where he serves as bishop.
“I am grateful for this season in my life. I told you last Sunday that I would see you this Sunday, so here I am. I am grateful to God for His goodness and grace. Many of you don’t realise that you are looking at a miracle. I faced a life-threatening calamity and was rushed to the ICU. I had emergency surgery and survived. Yes, I am back, and the doctor wants me to take it easy as I return, but I am back,” Jakes said as he addressed congregants virtually on Sunday.
He did not, however, reveal the exact reason for being rushed to the ICU. There has been speculation that Jakes may have suffered a stroke after a video, which has since gone viral, showed him sitting down in front of congregants during the sermon. He began shaking in his seat, causing his microphone to fall to the ground. Church members were seen immediately rushing to his aid.
Jakes stated that prior to the incident, he had undergone a complete physical examination and was in good health.
“I am grateful to the global community that follows this ministry; I just want to say thank you. I want to say, take care of yourself. Sometimes there are those of us who are busy taking care of other people and neglect ourselves. That is very true, but I had just had a complete physical, and I was fine. The truth of the matter is that sometimes things happen, and they are beyond our control. Sometimes things happen in spiritual warfare; I haven’t deduced all that, but all I know is that greater is He who is in the world,” he said.
