More Jamaican JPs to be sworn in this weekend

Reading Time: 2 minutesA total of 138 justice of the peace (JP)-designates will be sworn in this weekend, as the Ministry of Justice installs more lay magistrates across the country. A JP is intended to be a person of unquestionable integrity, who seeks to promote and protect the rights of individuals. They are constituted, empowered, and governed by the Justices of the Peace Act of 2018. New public defender sworn in

Reading Time: 3 minutesQueen’s Counsel Carolyn Reid-Cameron was on Thursday (September 1) sworn in as Public Defender during a ceremony at King’s House in St Andrew. Reid-Cameron, who was sworn in by Governor General Sir Patrick Allen, succeeds attorney-at-law Arlene Harrison Henry, who retired in April. Reid-Cameron, who is the second woman to be appointed to the post, previously served as deputy director of public prosecutions before she entered private practice in 1996. Mark Golding to be sworn in as Opposition Leader today
